Brs 3-4Promoting finger separation in individuals with insufficient finger separation using pinching exercises with medium-sized blocks.
- Case Examples
-
Fingers extension and separation are present, but pinching and other movements are unstable because of insufficient development of thumb opposition and fingers extension.
- Purpose
-
Encourage fingers extension and separation, build-up pinching (strength) in thumb opposition.
- MELTz Modes
-
Active instruction mode → Active free mode.
- Exercise menu and content
-
Make fist/extend fingers/relax (Limited mode ON or OFF)
- Repeated hand flexion and extension (pinching and releasing) in opposition in accordance with instructions from equipment.
- Repetitive pinching and releasing of objects (object = blocks, medium-sized pegs, etc.).
Points
- Limited mode used in cases of persistent extension difficulties or instability.
- Adjust the range of movement to suit the object.
- Difficulty adjusted depending on the item. (opposition build-up, increased extension range)
- If it is difficult to build up an opposition using only the device, use a thumb support band, or other method.
- Provide sensory re-education when pinching items.
